Twitter went into meltdown after the comedian's official account posted a picture of Vanessa Bell Calloway in character from the original 1988 film along with the caption: 'Coming to America sequel?"
The tweet and his whole account have since been removed from Twitter.
While the tweet appears to have been in error, or perhaps just too early, Eddie is in early writing stages of the project, TMZ reports.
In any case, even preliminary chatter of another film triggered a number of enthusiastic responses, with notable names such as actress Holly Robinson Peete and NFL alum Shawne Merriman reacting to the vague tweet.
The original film told the story of an African prince named Akeem (Murphy), who resists overtures of an arranged marriage with flawless Princess Imani Izzi (Calloway) to seek love on his own.
He and his best friend Semmi (Arsenio Hall) eventually wind up in Queens, New York, with plenty of fish-out-of-water humor from the comedy master Murphy.
It was a massive hit when it hit theaters in June of 1988, grossing more than $288 million worldwide. It garnered two Oscars, for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup.
Murphy and Hall played a number of personas in the film, with Eddie famously schticking as a barbershop regular named Saul.

Gabby has also been taken to task for her vague use of the phrase “textured hair,” as well as the models she chose to use in the company’s advertisements.
The “textured hair” models Gabrielle chose to use to promote Flawless were also noted by critics, who accused Gabrielle of trying to get black women’s money while not actually using black models or women who have kinky hair. Gabrielle hasn’t offered a retort to that accusation, but we all know the #1 rule for selling hair products to black women with kinky/coily/nappy hair is never use models that actually have that hair type unless you are peddling relaxers or texturizers.
The black haircare market is a billion-dollar business. However, relaxer sales are down and natural hair products are where the money’s at. Gabrielle is aware of this and looking to cash in on it like any good businesswoman would. Gabrielle wants to sell her products to as many women as possible and will use the terminology and imagery to do so, hence the liberal phrase “textured hair” and the wavy and curly-haired models used in the advertisements.
Is Gabrielle wrong for trying to get her slice of the natural hair pie? No, I don’t think so, especially if the products are of good quality. Honestly, why not give your money to Gabrielle It's no different then some of these white-owned companies who also jumped on the natural movement once they realized there was a buck to be made.

Back at the City of Lights for her Fall 2017 show, Harvard’s Humanitarian of the Year took over the National Library of France, using study tables as runways for her dashing and daring models.
The sometimes NSFW show began with a choir singing Radiohead’s “Creep,” but then, things turned up with in-your-face smashes from M.I.A. (“Bad Girls”) and Die Antwoord (“Happy Go Sucky Fucky” and “I Fink U Freeky”). Meanwhile, models walked down the runways with a combination of casual cool, bold ensembles, and brief moments of nudity.

Showtime Films financed the documentary and says it will use exclusive and rarely seen footage of Whitney to tell the story of her life. Via an interview with Billboard last year, Broomfield also detailed his plans for the documentary, including his reasons for declining commentary from Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown.
“Brown and Whitney were in a kind of strange dance,” Broomfield told the magazine. “They were completely destructive because they were in a weird competition with one another. I’ve never heard Bobby Brown even vaguely talk eloquently about that. I also didn’t want to spend a dime of money on him.”

Laughter ensued as social media users poked fun at Halle’s head. Some compared her coif to a bird’s nest and others claimed her wig was intentionally turned backwards.
On Hollywood’s biggest night, Halle Berry needed something different to draw attention to herself.
Enter celebrity hair stylist and custom wigmaker Castillo Bataille.
Betaille implied that, while styling the wig, he cut off a little too much hair and, in the process, inadvertently created an entirely new wig.
“I would say I cut off at least 5 inches. It created a whole new shape,” the L.A. based hairdresser told InStyle. “It’s definitely a new look for her — we went for a very natural, curly, powerful asymmetrical ‘fro. This is something she’e never done before and it’s just ridiculous how good she looks.”

The actress, who won her first Academy Award on Sunday night, delivered a long and rambling speech after nabbing the Best Supporting Actress gong for Fences all in a custom Armani dress. She paired this look with a metallic silver clutch.
Viola, 51, broke down in tears as she opened her speech, which went overtime by over two minutes, with a metaphor about a graveyard.
She went on to thank your costar and director: 'And captain, my captain Denzel Washington. Thank you for putting two entities in the driving seat: August and God. and they served you well.
Viola had tears in her eyes as she said: 'I became an artist, and thank God I did, because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life.'
The official set length of time for an Oscars speech is 45 seconds, but the actress went well over three minutes.
Viola was previously nominated for Doubt (2008) and The Help (2011). Congratulations to our black girl magic.

Foxx posted a video of the aftermath to his Instagram page – which has since been deleted – revealing in comments that two men had called him “crncuga”.
The term is Croatian for “n*****”, according to Total Croatia News.
Local cops have now filed disorderly conduct charges against two men aged 44 and 50 in connection with the incident.
Police said they acted after receiving reports on Sunday of “particularly arrogant and rude” insults made against restaurant guests.
The alleged comments included some against “one of the guests on racial grounds”, officers added.
The police statement did not name Foxx as the target, and he has only been identified by his initial social media posts.

Fan out...It was a night featuring basketball's best and brightest players. But there was no bigger star at the arena than Beyonce.
The 35-year-old singer was pictured sitting courtside at the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans, Louisiana on Sunday night.
She was not alone for the occasion as she was joined by husband Jay-Z and their adorable five-year-old daughter Blue Ivy for the event held at the Smoothie King Center.
The Queen Bey - who is expecting twins - wrapped her baby bump in a chic patterned kimono for the occasion. She also sported a white T-shirt, ripped light blue jeans and a pair of strappy stilettos.
The west took the win last night. Showman: John Legend was also at the game as he was the featured halftime performer. And other celebs in attendance, Chris Rock, Spike Lee, Nick Cannon and more.
